Sheriff
Presidio County
In
the 1959 western Rio Bravo, John Wayne portrays the
rough and tumble Sheriff of a lawless Texas border

his deputies defeat their foe; the bad guys get their
comeuppance, and the good guys live happily ever after.

Deputy
Constable
The
Constable and his Deputies have been a part of our
American civilization since the earliest of Colonial
times. In each of our original communities, the Constable
was one of the earliest offices created, and it was
his important duty to keep the King's peace. The Constable
continues today as a public officer possessing extensive
powers. However, the duties of Constables have been
modified from time to time by custom and statute.
As a point of interest, even the colloquial term cop
had its origin in the activities surrounding Constable,
meaning "Constable on Patrol."

Sheriff Badge
As
settlers of the west became the targets of Indians,
bandits, and thieves - they needed someone to protect
them and their property. The Sheriff's were the chief
keepers of the peace in the western territories and
usually fit into one of two categories: the quick
or the dead.
The blank ribbon can be engraved LOCALLY. The best
place to take it is a small place that sells
ZIPPO lighters and the such and offers on the spot
engraving.

Back
in May, 2006 we were rounded up to
work on a re-enactment of the moment
when Jack McCall walked into Tom Nuttal's
#10 Saloon on Aug 2 1876, in Deadwood,
Dakota Territory, and murdered Wild
Bill Hickok.
This
painting by Canadian artist Ken Dewar,
was the end result of the afternoon
of filming in Heritage Park, an authentic
19th century town, in Calgary. 130
years to the day that McCall did his
cowardly deed the painting was unveiled
in front of City Hall in Deadwood,
South Dakota, on August 2, 2006. More
