It'll drive a cowboy crazy
It'll drive the man insane
And he'll sell off everything he owns
Just to pay to play her game
And a broken home and some broken bones
Is all he'll have to show
For all the years that he spent chasin'
this dream they call Rodeo

FITS SIZES 6 7/8 - 8 We
recommend all customers who OWN a good hat,
get a hat stretcher. It Is a small cost for
a tool that will help keep ALL your hats fitting properly.
As well, if you only wear your hat seldom; or have
a number of hats you wear, you will find our wooden
hat stretcher a valuable addition to maintaining the
perfect shape of your custom cowboy hat.
Crown and Brim Measurements
We make custom cowboy hats
so the crown and brim measurements are pretty much redundant.
The hats you see online are our standard hats, if you
want a specific crown and brim height we will confirm
that after your order is received. We can make up to a
six (6") inch crown and a five (5") brim. Any
hat with a brim width of more than 4 inches we must start
with an oversized hat body, which adds a little to the
cost. Most of our cowboy hats have a crown height between
5 and 6 inches and a brim width of 3 1/2 to 4 inches.
Hat styles with a wider brim include The
Wasey, Quigley,
Everett Hitch,
Blondie,
Little J,
The Dunson,
Last of the
Dogmen, Wild
Bill, all our B-Movie
hats, and many of our Custom
Rodeo Hats.
During the 1990s stores couldn't stock enough
cowboy hats, boots, and jeans, to keep up with demand.
This hat style reminds us of those days.
Our
hats off to Joshua Horton
for ordering the first one.

In
the early 1990s country music star, Garth Brooks,
took his traditional country sound and mixed
in pop music, and the popularity of country
music soared. Clint Black, Alan Jackson, and
the rest of Nashville rode shotgun and all of
a sudden anything to do with the country or
western lifestyle was in demand around the world.
The
1990s was when denim really entered the traditional
workplace. Before long world class designers
were revamping or introducing their own jean
designs, and Bankers in Germany were wearing
Hugo Boss Jeans with their Hugo Boss sport coats.
And Line Dancing TV shows were everywhere -
the way poker shows are now. Thanks Mr. Brooks!

on what makes people flock to the bull-riding
event at every rodeo, "It's the same
reason people glance off the road to get a better

People don't want to see somebody die, but they
darn sure want to be there when he does."

Ancient
World Bull Rider
Although
the Bull Riding Event at a rodeo can be traced
back thousands of years, it has no basis in
the chores of a working cowboy. Breaking a
green horse, roping, bull dogging, these are
all part of a working cowboys day, but riding
a bull has no practical use. The only question
being answered is whose balls are bigger.
In
most cases, if it was made in the Past
- it can be made in the Present.
Most questions regarding, "Can
you make. . . ." is yes.
If you've seen it in a movie, or have
a picture of it - we can make it. Send
us a picture of the hat you are looking
for, and we will get you a quote. Like
the man said, a picture is worth a thousand
words, so please send a picture along
with your quote requests.

Beaver Fur-felt
This
big hat has a 6 inch crown and a 4 3/4"
brim width. The Cutter is a modern rodeo style,
with self band/buckle for the hatband. We start
with an oversized hat body so we can have the
brim wider than 4 inches. This hat is a cousin
of our Little
Bill hat from that Oscar Winning
movie by Clint Eastwood, Unforgiven.
For
any working cowboy, or wrangler, or buckaroo,
one of the important jobs he has is cutting
out steers from the herd. For that the cowboy
needs a well trained Quarterhorse and a good
hat. Why the hat? Well, dang, he has to look
good doing it!

RODEO
FACT
The Calgary Stampede Rodeo, like
the NFR, is by invitation only. The top 15 Cowboys
in each discipline are invited to compete over
the rodeo's ten days, in early July every year.
Since 1912 the Calgary Stampede has been "The
Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", and
is one of the top paydays in Rodeo. From Bareback
and Saddle Bronc, to ladies Barrel Racing and
Bull Riding, the winner's all go home with a
cool 100,000 in Canadian cash.
The
Life of a Rodeo Cowboy Every
year hundreds of Rodeo Cowboy's pay their
own way from rodeo to rodeo, all across the
west, in the hopes of qualifying for the Calgary
Stampede Rodeo, and the National Finals Rodeo
in Las Vegas. Held in the first week of July
and December respectively; this is where the
top fifteen cowboys of every event, compete
head to head for the Champion's Championship,
the fancy belt buckle, and the big money pay-out.
Getting
in to the top fifteen is impressive enough,
but winning takes more than guts, and determination.
The overall winner generally displays superior
skill and talent, and quite often superior
luck as well. Because if the cowboy doesn't
get the right draw of a horse, bull, or steer
that'll perform for him - he ain't gonna win.
Real simple.
At
left is early Rodeo Star - Yakima Canutt displaying
some of his buckles and trophies - circa 1920.
Canutt got his nick-name, at one of his first
Rodeos, when the Ring Announcer told the audience,
"Here comes that young cowboy from
Yakima." Yakimawent on
to be an early silent movie star and a legendary
stuntman and second-unit director.More about Yak Canutt.

A
Note about Color Color
variances caused by individual computer
monitors are beyond our control.
Light colors will reflect heat the best
- while dark colors will retain the heat
the most - with black being the worst for
staying hot (black absorbs sunlight). However black is the most formal
color so bowlers and top hats were generally
black or dark gray. For the first 15-20
years cowboy hats were marketed - your choice
of color was black and about 3 shades of
brown. Click
here for our hat catalogue.
If
a cowboy hat is a regular part of your attire,
and you think that black jeans are dress
pants, then you are going to want to read
The Last Best West. Set in 1896
amidst the chaos of the Klondike Gold Rush,
this western adventure tells the story of
a lifelong grudge between Wasey Bruce
and Poke Roberts.
Their
hatred travels the breadth of the North
American West, and sets the men on different
paths for the gold fields of the Klondike
River, in the wilds of the Yukon Territories.
Two thousand miles of adventure are between
the men and the Klondike and each will have
their mettle tested before they arrive by
different paths in Dawson City, where millionaires
are a dime a dozen and horses are as rare
as a pretty woman. The Last Best West,
where making your fortune does have a cost.

Young
horses need to be broke, and that means riding
them to a standstill - until they start accepting
a man on their back and respond to the reins.
It takes a lot longer than 8 seconds to saddle
break a young mount, and the cowboy that can
do that commands top wages on any spread he
wants to work on.

Trail
Dust Many customers have been requesting
that we dirty up their new hats to
make them look trail worn. Pictured
is a dusty Josey
Wales - our Josey
Wales hat with many
years’ worth of trail dust -
as if a hard living horse soldier
had been wearing it. Inset hat shows
the hat clean and unsoiled.
We've got three different degrees
of trail dust. Light (add $55.00)
- medium (add $75.00), and heavy (add
$95.00). Light would be what you see
on our BOSS
SPEARMAN medium would
be like the dusting on the Rossiter;
and heavy trail dust looks like our
Josey
Wales.
This
is a similar process that costume
designers apply to hats in the movies
and t. v. Looks authentic and yore
friends will swear yer just got off
a trail drive, or a hitch in the Horse
Cavalry! You can add trail dust during
the check out process - or request
it when you call your order in.
